State of Grace Rooftop — A Higher Grace

Since the new millennium, Melbourne has consistently ranked as one of the top three most liveable cities in the world, becoming synonymous with the arts, culture, and truly authentic and diverse eating and drinking. In particular, the Melbourne CBD is renowned for its bars and restaurants; some on full display to passers-by, while others are tucked away, playing ‘hard to get’ down laneways and on rooftops.

The State of Grace offers a taste of Melbourne's character, with hidden and unannounced havens set in the historic Melbourne Steamship Co. Building. At ground level, The State of Grace is a contemporary interpretation of old-world luxury, with marble, chandeliers, high ceilings and expansive windows overlook King Street. Downstairs is Fall From Grace, a hidden ‘speakeasy’ style, dimly lit bar accessed through a sliding book case. Lastly there’s A Higher Grace on the roof top, typically immersed in the surrounding city towers.

Making an open rooftop space comfortable in Melbourne’s ever-changing weather is no mean feat, and it’s here that Celmec’s radiant heating expertise was called upon. Some physical parameters to contend with at A Higher Grace were a substantial open steel structure running along the length of the space, as well as some covered areas on the roof top.

The solution needed to be powerful enough to contend with the open rooftop, and flexible enough to work within the physical constraints.

Celmec’s gas-fired Tube Radiant Heaters [TRH’s] and Electric Infrared Radiant Heaters [IRH-E’s] were perfect for the job to provide a combination of low, medium and high intensity radiant heat throughout the rooftop’s various spaces for maximum winter eating, drinking and social meeting. TRH’s were utilised for large areas with higher mounting positions, and the highest spec. 3200W IRH-E for lower mounting positions with localised heating control.

The solution needed to be powerful enough to contend with the open rooftop, and flexible enough to work within the physical constraints.
